How do I set up an isolation tank for molting?
Last Updated: 01/07/2010
We do not recommend using an isolation tank for molting crabs. If your tank is set up with the proper substrate there is no need to isolate your crabs during molting.

Explanation:
The main problem we have with using an isolation tank for molting hermit crabs, is that it requires that you accurately figure out when you crab is ready to molt. Yes there are some signs that are generally present prior to molting but they are often subtle and not universal. We have also noticed that the time between molt can vary based on the condition a crab I in. For example if a crab is working on repairing a damaged limb they will tend to dig down to molt sooner than normal.

We recommend that crabitats be set up so that the conditions are always ready for any of your crabs to molt as they wish.
