Description   Medium Coenobita clypeatus (Purple Pincher). Medium crabs need a minimum of 6 inches of moist sand in their tank. The general rule of thumb is to allow 3 gallons of space for each medium crab. You can keep several in a 10 gallon tank as long as you are prepared to upgrade as they grow. A tank 16 to 18 inches tall will work better and allow for growth. These crabs are about the size of a golf ball.
